Anime Baka

Anime - Japanese Animation
Baka - Japanese word for idiot or fool

Loosely put an Anime Baka is someone who's crazy about Anime. However interpretation's may vary. I tend to think of Anime Baka as meaning something like drooling fan boy/girl.

Anime Baka Contact

Wrote this a long time ago. Too short for an article:
Perverted - Hentai in Japanese. But the word pervert means deviation from normal or accepted. So, how can all guys be perverts?

Did you ever notice that the sex scene in the movie is generally at about the same realative place as the guitar solo in a song?

2009-07-31 Just Say No to Phony Books
Just how many yellow pages are there? Too many. On the one hand you've got to love the entrepreneurial spirit. On the other hand it's just people out to scam other people. What I'm talking about is all the fake phone books that seem to be everywhere.

Imagine creating a need for a service where there is no need. Imagine convincing people that they free isn't good enough. Imagine contributing to the decimation of our forests and filling up our land fills at the same time just to line your pocket.

Now the information in the phone book, the one distributed by your local phone company, is not subject to copyright. Anyone can copy it and publish it on their own. That's what phone book companies do. They then try to sell advertising in their "useful" directories. They try to mimic the look of the real directories so that people will be confused. They publish these books and then hire guys for minimum wage to go deliver them to every door in the county. It looks just like the real phone book.

One of these companies approached my wife when we had a store. They convinced her that they were the "Phone Book" and our store would not be listed unless she paid them lots of money. I called them up and told them off and never paid them a cent. It's probably still on my credit report. What they did to her is just a completely legal con job.

Now there are also some "Specialty" phone books out there. One I know of one that only has listings for Christian business. The idea is you'll feel better about giving your money to and get better treatment from such businesses. Let's think about it for a minute. Would this be any different from publishing a phone book of non-Jewish businesses? Isn't that the exact same thing? Why are so many people ready to jump on board the persecution band wagon?

There is another problem. Even if we're ok with "Christian Phone Book", what makes one company good moral church goers and another heathens? Is there a special interview process where they determine the spiritually of each business? I really doubt it. They probably use the same sales tactics all the rest of the fake phone books do. In other words, pay us the money and we don't care. So the accuracy of such a phone book is dubious at best. Furthermore does the said business only employ Christians and have mandatory prayer lunches? Of course not that would be illegal discrimination; as opposed to the legal discrimination were talking about. The premise is just a new face for a very old game that makes people feel smug about being with the "right" or is that "reich" group.

So how can we as a society choose not to take part in this foolishness (or con game depending on how you think about it) or even stop it? Well I have thought of two approaches. I generally do the first, but the second would require a good lawyer. The first approach is to call the company up and demand that they remove the item that they "littered" on your property. Yes, that's right technically it is littering to drop something on your property unless you have permission to do so. The real phone company has this permission, you gave it to them when you signed up for phone service (what? you didn't read page 32 of that fine print?).

Technically they might as well be dumping garbage on your property. It's the same thing. So call them up and tell them you want them to come remove their litter. Here littering is a $1,000 fine and is a misdemeanor. Now you have them over a barrel head, they have to employ someone for minimum wage to come get the phone book. As it's a bit more complex, the manager or owner may end up doing the task themselves, but the real impact is time and money. It's going to cost them about as much money to pick up one phony book as to distribute one hundred. Now if I were them I would take your address off my delivery list, but such companies tend to be fly by night operations and don't generally have such fancy things so expect them again next year. If enough people do this, the company is going to stop or go away.

Now what is the second option that needs a lawyer? What about prosecuting the bastards? They are breaking the law with each and every phone book they drop off. In California in a 100,000 person city that's the potential for $100 million in fines and I'm sure some jail time. I don't know if you could sue them as a class action suit (wouldn't that be fun, make them pay everyone in town $100 or something) or if this is a case for the local District Attorney, but I think it could be done. I rather think that these business would disappear in the middle of the night instantly at the first hint of such activity.

Perhaps you can think of something I havent. And yes I rip up the credit card applications I am sent and stuff them back into the pre-paid envelopes and send them back too. They can pay the return postage to dispose of their trash.
